Cheesy Savoury Scones

  • 250 g Self raising flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 75 g Butter cubed
  • 60 g Cheddar Cheese grated
  • ½ tsp rosemary chopped
  • ½ tsp thyme chopped
  • 1 Egg
  • 75 ml buttermilk
  • Salt and pepper


  • Preheat the oven to 160˚C. grease a 18cm cake tin or cast iron dish.
  • in a bowl, Place the flour, baking powder and the butter, cheese, chopped herbs.
  • rub together until it resembles breadcrumbs.
  • Add the egg and pour in the buttermilk. Gently combine and it forms a dough. Avoid overworking the dough to ensure a better rise of the scones.
  • Place the dough out onto a lightly floured surface, and shape into a flatten ball to fit the tin. Place in the cake tin. Brush with some egg wash and sprinkle extra cheese over if desired.
  • Slit with a knife the dough into 6 wedges.
  • Place in the oven and bake for 20-25 minutes.
  • Remove from the oven and serve warm with your favourite breakfast items.
